I’m in a town called Sammamish, WA, which I believe this year “earned” the inglorious title of highest GDP per capital in any city of the United States. Well, just like the six other cities I’ve been today, all sanitizer has been stolen from job shacks and forcibly ripped off walls of any restroom or porta potty. And just like America’s commitment to a dichotomy of choice, everyone I’ve met today falls into one of two camps: this is no big deal, or we’re all gonna die. Also plenty of trades and project managers who working when they are clearly quite sick.
I’m not thrilled with our decision to stay open and sending people out to get sick for a non-essential services /products . I can’t post the memos I’ve received, but let me just say: thoroughly unimpressed.

Being a rational person in the thick of it. I have to ask if you are wearing a mask? This is fast becoming one of the biggest messages Italy is sending our way.
Stay safe and take care of your family the best you can.

My workplace is still open. Big government contractor with 4000+ employees. They’re not even encouraging work from home yet.

Everyone I know except my construction buddies are home, it is weird. My best friend is a heavy equipment operator and was asked to increase their 10 hour days while the rest of us are being sent home.

We have suspended all no essential travel and the contractors I work with in California have st op p ed work for the time being. That I think is a very wise decision until we figure out what is going to happen. I truly care about the health and safety of my friends and coworkers. For the moment I know of at least two people that potentially have the Corona virus, one in California and one here in Montana who was in Denver last week.

People are stealing hand sanitizer from our restaurants. Someone picked up one of the standalone sanitizer stations and ran out the door. lol

Grocery stores
are cashing in while they still
can, once they start limiting people allowed into the store,
cash is going to drop off dramatically. So for the time being let’s make them a virus
breeding ground so we can make a buck.
*economy collapses in the backround*

Our GC for a big project have said that if they have 2 cases on site they’re pulling the plug on everything and waiting it out. Frankly, I’m happy they’re being that blunt about it. The developer client is gonna be pissed though.

panic buying actually seems to be getting worse here now things are starting to look like a lockdown
where are people leaving all this stuff?
went to the shop earlier.. no rice..no pasta..no bread..no tp or anykind of soap...no coffee (the horror)
good thing i dont need any of that stuff yet
was a little annoying having to hunt down catfood tho
welp...i figure itll calm down soon enough...people must be running out of space and money to hoard by now

Our entire department of ~ 1,500 mostly back-end white collar people have been ordered to work from home (including our contractors/consultants, which is rare).
But our retail locations....over 8,000 of them....are still open for business. Retail banking is still considered pretty essential, I just hope they’re getting the protection they need. Ultimately this is a huge test of personal responsibility. They say Italy got as bad as it did due heavily to a nationwide dismissive, superior cultural attitude . I can only imagine what that’s going to mean for MURICA!

Had to grab a few things from the grocery store, same things are out up here, but only the bigger chain stores. Smaller local places weren’t as badly hit. But HOLY SHIT is it the worst nervous vibe at all the grocery stores. Heard a couple of middled aged guys mocking the social distancing and isolation. Like its never going to happen up here. I’m in the UP of Michigan, still no active cases up here, yet.

My company sent a memo from the main office in New York telling folks to stay home if they could work from there. My local DC office had a bit of a lag and I had to wait to see it that was the plan here as well. I'm home now. We do still have jobs open and they sent sick subcontractors home yesterday. It's a crazy time. Hopefully it will be over soon.

Developers make their entire nut by screwing over everyone with less money. Let them be pissed.

Yep, that’s where we are now. And “working from home” must mean “ignore the phone and turn off the computer” because we are getting absolutely zero support from the back office. I was on hold for 40 minutes to submit payment modification on a business loan, ended up going to voicemail, no response. Spent half an hour on hold this morning because my email was down, finally got fixed at 3pm.
So much of what we do at retail has to be done by the back office with us as intermediaries, if half the equation isn't really working, we're pretty damn limited in what we can do for customers.

Our core team of 10-12 is already 100% WFH, so we’re all used to it. But we suddenly realized that for most of our office-bound coworkers, this is a crazy culture shock. Same experience as you, just a lot of unanswered emails and calls, plus a lot of “sorry this has been crazy” comments.
In other words, if I had to grade WFH on a mass scale for the past 2 days, I’d give it a C-.

Not gonna say where ( to ward of f looting) , but my chiro practor’s office has free little containers of sanitizer. Got one Saturday, another today, might check for others by the end of the week - before things shut down. I halfway expect another announcement by Friday.
Cabin fever is going to be a real thing next week.

Well, that just means
no confirmed positive tests, and
I’d be interested to know how many people they’ve even tested.

We had a project demo that was supposed to be last Friday moved to today, My manger and director were supposed to be there. In the ride back asked what the director was up, why he bowed out at the last second “oh he afraid of getting sick” Oh we can be in a cramped room with 12+ people. Last week the only thing he cared about was is portfolio, now he afraid. still wont close the office. Rushing for this demo was a fools errand.

There has been testing, very limited. Still nothing as of today. Traverse City confirmed first case, thats still 7hrs driving away. Green Bay is way closer and have no idea about that.
